Elements of a Lesson

Enjoy this excerpt from our instructors manual:

“Elements of a Therapeutic Lesson

As a therapeutic riding instructor, we are responsible for a LOT! It’s important to understand each aspect of what we are responsible for and how we can best steward of our resources, maintain the highest level of safety and provide a quality lesson for everyone involved.

Instructors are responsible to prepare, support, supervise and manage leaders, sidewalkers, horses and participants before, during and after each lesson. We are not in
control of the weather, participant behavior, unexpected horse behavior, or unpredictable parents. We are responsible to manage these when they arise and advocate for our participant’s safety. It is crucial to know that no matter what, things will go wrong, we will make mistakes and there will always be things outside of our control. This further elevates the point that we must do all we can within our control to set each lesson up for success.”
