Volunteer
Roles
Lesson volunteers must be age 14 and up.
Volunteers age 10-13 may participate with additional limitations.
Sidewalker
Sidewalkers work hard to assure the safety and support of our participants! They are trained to assist with mounts, dismounts and physical supports while riding. They may help in Barn Buddies, Summer Camps and Special Events!
Horse Leader
Horse Leaders are responsible to groom, tack and lead the horse during lessons. Horse leaders must have extensive horsemanship handling of at least 1 year within the last 5 years and demonstrate a high level of competency on Justin’s Place farm before stepping into this role.
Ring Assistant
The ring assistant supports lessons and instructors by helping with the mounted portion of lessons including mounts, dismounts, setting up the arena, setting up and tearing down games, assisting participants to wait during tack checks, assisting to sidewalk as needed, mucking manure, running to grab equipment, etc! Ring assistants are asked to commit to 1-2 hours per week for a program season.
Farm Fairy
The farm fairy assist with the non-mounted portion of lessons. They supervise the barn yard and play yard areas during sessions to open gates, pull out and put back animals, grab and clean up supplies, greet and send off participants, assist with helmets and transitions and do odd jobs when there’s down time. Farm fairies can volunteer as needed, but consistency is preferred!
Stable Moments Mentor
Much like the EE Mentor, you will get quality time facilitating sessions with a participant and horse. The difference is Stable Moments is all un-mounted work and a therapeutic, consistent relationship is the priority! SM Mentors invest lots of patience, love and playfulness into their participants as they work consistently over a longer term program.
Stable Moments Mobile Mentor
Take the experience of Stable Moments INTO your local schools. By overcoming barriers of payment and transportation, we serve the families who need us most! SM Mobile Mentors commit to the same day and time for 14 weeks of programming.
Wrangler
Wranglers help to keep the farm running by assisting with odd jobs, farm chores and horse handling, such as holding for the farrier, giving baths, assisting with program prep, etc. Individuals MUST have 1 year extensive hands-on horse handling experience within the last 5 years.
Emerging Equestrians Mentor
Love horses AND kiddos? Emerging Equestrian mentors get equal parts of both! As an EE mentor, you will pull and prepare the horse’s tack each week and supervise/ teach your participant how to groom and tack. You will support the participant at the level they need throughout their lesson alongside 2 other participants and their mentors under the supervision of an instructor. EE mentors commit to a participant for a season.
Busy Bee
Busy Bees keep our farm buzzing! This is the BASIC requirement for all volunteers and clears you to assist with any basic odd jobs on the farm! By completing a volunteer application, background check, busy bee training and busy bee orientation/check off, you are part of the JP volunteer family!
